§ 02 · a section of the read

The market

The household context, each indicator against its own history.

What it is

The measured conditions a brand operates in: consumer confidence, savings intent, big-ticket intent, unemployment and retail turnover, each shown against its own long-run mean so "below its norm" is a measurement rather than an adjective.

How it’s built

Official Eurostat series, each with its own period, and each flagged when the latest reading is old enough that its age matters to the read.

What you get

  • Every indicator against its own mean, not against other markets.
  • The vintage of each figure, and a flag when it is stale.
  • Nine quarters of position, reconstructed with the same engine each quarter.
  • How long the current position has held.

From the data

Germany: confidence at −14.5 against its own mean, savings intent elevated at 25.3, big-ticket intent at −16.1.
